Anna and Will May, a couple from Rhode, County Offaly, have shared their heartfelt fertility journey with Sims IVF, which ultimately led to the arrival of their baby girl, Lilah Louise, in December 2024. Their story, part of Sims IVF’s “Love in Real Life” campaign, reflects the resilience and hope required in the face of infertility challenges.
After trying to conceive for two years, the couple turned to IVF in 2021. Their first egg retrieval attempt was canceled due to a poor response, leaving them devastated. However, their second attempt yielded better results: 24 eggs were retrieved, 14 fertilized, and two embryos viable by day five. Though initially disappointed with the low number, Anna later recognized how fortunate they were to have two embryos.
The road to parenthood was not without heartbreak. Anna experienced an early miscarriage after the first embryo transfer. Recalling the experience, she said, “You just know something’s a little bit off… They confirmed it’s a miscarriage. There was no pregnancy there anymore.”
With one remaining embryo, the couple faced immense pressure. “It was the last chance before we had to start all over again,” said Will. In spring 2023, they tried again, and this time, the news was joyous. Anna recalled the moment during the scan: “Within three seconds, [the doctor] said, ‘There’s your baby. There’s your heartbeat.’”
On December 5, 2024, their daughter, Lilah Louise May, was born. Will called it “the happiest day of my life.” Anna expressed her gratitude to Sims IVF, saying, “They gave us Lilah. Now we’re thinking, ‘Oh, I’d love another one,’ so maybe our journey is not over yet.”
The Mays’ journey highlights the emotional highs and lows of IVF, ending with the hope and fulfillment of parenthood.
