Local Couple Faces Infertility Struggles, Turns To IVF In Greece

PORTA, IL — Samantha and Dallas Jones are opening up about their struggle with infertility during Infertility Awareness Month, hoping to raise support and bring attention to the high cost of fertility treatment in the United States.

The Joneses, both coaches at PORTA High School, spent years trying to start a family. After several failed attempts at adoption, they were diagnosed with infertility earlier this year. Doctors told them that in-vitro fertilization (IVF) was their only option to have biological children.

However, their health insurance does not cover IVF. The average cost of the procedure in the U.S. ranges from $30,000 to $50,000, putting it out of reach for many families.

Determined to pursue treatment, Samantha and Dallas began researching other options. They discovered that IVF in Greece is significantly more affordable—about a third of the U.S. cost—and has promising success rates. They plan to begin IVF treatment abroad in July 2025, timing it to align with their summer coaching schedules.

The couple has been saving since their diagnosis but still needs help to meet their $12,000 goal. This amount would cover the cost of IVF, travel, and accommodation in Greece.

To help bridge the gap, a local fundraiser will take place on June 21 from 2 to 6 p.m. at the Boar’s Nest. The event will include raffle prizes donated by local sponsors and a $10 meal option featuring a pulled pork sandwich.

Samantha and Dallas have pledged that any money raised beyond their $12,000 goal will be donated to an IVF foundation that supports other couples facing the same challenges.
