In today’s fast-paced world, patience can feel like a burden. But DawnChere Wilkerson, author and pastor, offers a different view. In her new book Slow Burn, she shares how waiting is not a delay — it is part of life.
Wilkerson spoke openly about her eight-year struggle with infertility during an interview on Hope 103.2’s UNDISTRACTED podcast. She explained that waiting taught her important spiritual lessons.
“Waiting is not just a season. It’s life,” she said. “The real question for me was, will I live in the wait?”
During this time, DawnChere and her husband Rich balanced their roles leading Vous Church in Miami. Despite their busy lives, they found it tempting to distract themselves from the pain of waiting.
“We often think we’re waiting on God,” DawnChere said, “but actually, God is waiting for us to see what He has already given us.”
She admitted that in the early days of her struggle, she tried to face the pain alone. “I thought I could do it by myself,” she said. But she soon realized the importance of community.
“Community is essential, especially in times of vulnerability,” Wilkerson said. “I still need people, and we all need each other because God created us for community.”
Now a mother of four, DawnChere encourages those facing “not-yet” moments to lean into God’s word and be honest about their struggles.
“Read the Bible and talk to God,” she advised. “Sometimes what needs to change most is our attitude. We need God’s presence for that.”
Reflecting on her journey, she said she would not undo any part of it. “The eight years shaped who I am today.”
