Can Ozempic Really Make Your Penis Look Bigger? Doctors Explain Why It Might

Some men on social media have claimed that taking Ozempic (semaglutide) made their penis look bigger. While this might sound surprising, experts say the change is more likely linked to weight loss than the drug itself.

Why Ozempic May Make the Penis Appear Larger

According to urologists, excess fat in the lower abdomen can cover part of the penis, making it look shorter. Dr. Juan J. Andino, a board-certified urologist at The Men’s Clinic at UCLA Health, explained that as men age and gain weight, fat can collect in the area just above the pubic bone. When they lose weight, more of the penis becomes visible.

Dr. Hossein Sadeghi-Nejad, a urologist at NYU Langone Health, added that losing weight also improves blood flow. Poor circulation, often linked to obesity, can lead to erectile dysfunction (ED). Better circulation can enhance erections and even increase perceived girth.

“Weight loss can improve overall heart and blood vessel health, which can lead to stronger erections,” Sadeghi-Nejad said in an email interview. “That might be why some men notice what feels like a size increase.”

Still, both doctors agree that Ozempic likely does not directly change penis length or thickness.

Can Ozempic Cause Erectile Dysfunction?

While some men report better erections, others have posted on Reddit about experiencing ED while on Ozempic. Dr. Andino said he has heard similar concerns from his patients.

He explained that the connection is unclear. “Mechanistically, I don’t know what’s happening, but it’s something we need to monitor closely,” he said. “So far, we try to balance the drug’s benefits with any risks.”

If you experience ED after starting a new medication like Ozempic, talk to your doctor. ED can affect younger men too, and many effective treatments are available.

“If people are getting health benefits but start to notice sexual side effects, they shouldn’t stay silent,” Andino advised. “They should bring it up with their doctor.”

Why You Shouldn’t Ignore Changes in Your Genital Health

Penile and testicular changes shouldn’t be ignored, even if they seem small. Dr. Sadeghi-Nejad noted that ED can be an early warning sign of heart disease because the blood vessels in the penis are smaller and more sensitive to blood flow issues.

“A full hormonal and blood flow evaluation can reveal hidden health problems,” he said. “Treating ED can sometimes uncover and address other serious conditions.”

Despite the risks, many men avoid going to the doctor. A 2022 Cleveland Clinic survey found that over half of U.S. men skip regular health checkups.

Andino emphasized the importance of paying attention to changes and taking action early. “Learning how to do a testicular self-exam can save lives,” he said. “It’s something young men, especially those in their teens to mid-30s, should get comfortable with.”

If you notice a new lump or swelling in the testicles, see a doctor right away. Diagnosis of testicular cancer usually includes a physical exam, ultrasound, and blood tests. Early detection improves treatment outcomes significantly.
