Cuttack, Odisha: A 25-year-old female health worker and her partner were found hanging inside a locked room in Khandola village under Mahanga police limits in Cuttack district on Sunday.
The deceased have been identified as Chinmayee Bhoi of Balisahi and Devendra Munda of Ramakrushnapur in Salipur, both aged around 25.
Chinmayee was employed as a health worker at Raisunguda Primary Health Centre. According to sources, she had been in a relationship with Devendra for several years.
The couple had recently moved into a rented house in Khandola village, where they had been living for the past four days.
On Sunday morning, neighbors noticed the house remained locked and quiet. Concerned by the lack of response, some villagers knocked on the door but received no reply.
The landlord, Khirod Lenka, alerted local authorities, fearing something had gone wrong.
Police, accompanied by the local Tahsildar, arrived at the scene. They broke open the door and discovered the couple hanging from a ceiling fan.
The bodies were taken to SCB Medical College and Hospital in Cuttack for post-mortem examination.
Police have registered a case of unnatural death and launched a formal investigation.
Preliminary findings suggest the couple may have died by suicide, using a sari to hang themselves, officials said.
Further inquiries are underway to determine the exact cause and circumstances surrounding the deaths.
