Dancing With the Stars co-host Julianne Hough is opening up about her ongoing battle with infertility. The 36-year-old professional dancer recently shared a candid video on Instagram, offering a glimpse into her third round of egg freezing.
On Saturday, June 7, Hough posted a personal update, describing the emotional and physical toll of the process.
“This is my third round of egg freezing,” she wrote. “I know it’s not always the most comfortable thing to talk about, let alone share publicly. But I’ve realized how important it is to open up about these things.”
Hough expressed her admiration for the many women going through similar journeys. “Women all over the world are quietly walking into doctors’ offices, making huge, brave decisions about their bodies and their futures,” she wrote. “It’s one of the most vulnerable experiences… physically, emotionally, and for sure hormonally.”
She also thanked Dr. Carolyn Alexander and the team at the Southern California Reproductive Center (SCRC), saying they’ve supported her since her second endometriosis surgery in 2017. “They’ve been like family ever since,” she added.
The Instagram post included a video montage showing 10 days of hormone injections and doctor visits. Hough narrated parts of the video, sharing her symptoms as the treatment progressed.
On day eight, she commented, “Hormones were kicking in. My boobs are bigger. Everything is happening.” The footage gave followers a real look into the reality of the fertility process.
Fans and fellow celebrities responded with an outpouring of support.
Actress Jenna Dewan shared a series of heart emojis. Sophia Bush, who has also spoken publicly about her IVF journey, wrote, “Oh baby. It’s such a journey. Love you and love that you’re sharing.”
Kimberly Williams-Paisley, known for Father of the Bride, commented, “Thank you for sharing your journey!! ❤️❤️❤️”
Another follower echoed the impact of Hough’s transparency: “Thank you for sharing this personal part of your life. It helps so many women feel normal.”
Dancing With the Stars is set to return for its 34th season this fall. ABC has not yet confirmed an official premiere date.
