Liza Hyatt, 34, and her husband Derek, 33, faced nearly a decade of infertility struggles, including multiple rounds of fertility treatments and a miscarriage, but their journey took a miraculous turn when they welcomed six children in six years.
The couple, from Orlando, Florida, began trying to conceive in April 2010. Despite their efforts, each month brought disappointment with negative pregnancy tests. Over the next few years, they spent around $40,000 on fertility treatments, including three rounds of intrauterine insemination (IUI) and two rounds of in-vitro fertilization (IVF), but all ended in heartbreak.
In August 2013, after their third IUI attempt, Liza finally became pregnant, only to lose the baby in a miscarriage at six weeks. Feeling devastated, Liza and Derek decided to adopt and welcomed their first child, Eloise, in May 2018. But just eight months later, they received an unexpected surprise: Liza was pregnant with their first biological son, Remmington, now five.
The couple’s family continued to grow rapidly. By December 2019, Liza was pregnant again and gave birth to four more children: Oakley, now four; Estella, three; Monroe, two; and their youngest, Eve, born four months ago.
Reflecting on their struggles, Liza, a content creator, shared, “Unexplained fertility is one of the hardest things. I felt like a failure. Doctors didn’t know what was wrong—they just told us to keep trying.”
Despite the emotional toll, Liza found solace in the adoption of Eloise, although she said the pain of infertility didn’t disappear. The couple’s surprise pregnancies that followed were both a blessing and a source of anxiety, as Liza didn’t feel at ease until each baby was safely in her arms.
Throughout their journey, Liza and Derek sought medical help in various forms. In 2012, they turned to an OBGYN, who prescribed fertility medication, Clomid. In April 2013, they began IUI, a procedure in which sperm is directly inserted into the uterus. However, after their third attempt ended in a miscarriage, Liza realized the challenge wasn’t just getting pregnant—it was staying pregnant.
A few years later, the couple’s search for adoption brought them to Eloise, and they were thrilled to have her join their family in 2018. Still, Liza longed to experience pregnancy. In early 2019, a surprise positive pregnancy test led to the birth of Remmington that September. Then, just months later, Liza discovered she was pregnant again, and Oakley was born in August 2020.
After another miscarriage in late 2020, Liza went on to have Estella in November 2021, followed by Monroe in February 2023 and Eve in December 2024. Through every pregnancy, Liza never allowed herself to relax until each child was safely in her arms.
Liza and Derek now have a bustling household filled with joy and challenges. “Having six kids in six years has been a lot of work, but it’s a beautiful thing,” Liza said. “Watching their personalities develop is a privilege. I’d rather spend my time with them. They’re not just my kids, they’re my besties.”
