Social media personality Lauryn Bosstick, founder of The Skinny Confidential, has stirred controversy with her recent comments about fertility. On May 22, during an episode of “The Skinny Confidential Him & Her” podcast, Bosstick shared that she got pregnant with all three of her children on the first try.
Bosstick, who is currently pregnant with her third child, discussed her journey with guests, including Shannon Ford Middleton. She explained that her intention behind sharing her experience wasn’t to boast but to highlight that positive fertility stories also exist. She added, “No one wants to talk about it because everyone’s scared they’re going to trigger someone.”
Despite her good intentions, her comments prompted backlash from women facing fertility struggles. Many have since written open letters to Lauryn, expressing how hurtful her words were.
The Controversy
Bosstick’s comments about easy pregnancies and how people avoid sharing positive stories about fertility due to fear of offending others sparked debate. She argued that the lack of positive fertility stories online leaves only “fearful experiences” for women to read about. She emphasized that her goal was to encourage younger women to not fear pregnancy, especially for those who don’t plan to conceive until later in life.
However, her remarks didn’t sit well with many listeners. One TikTok user, who experienced infertility, responded, “I want to urge you to have some empathy for a heartbreaking and extremely taxing situation that you very luckily did not have to experience.”
Responses to the Comments
While some appreciated Lauryn’s vulnerability, others felt her delivery was insensitive. One TikTok user commented, “I agree her delivery was off, but I think her intent was to relay that it’s OK to talk about joyful pregnancy experiences as well as the painful ones.”
The controversy even caught the attention of The View co-host Alyssa Farah Griffin. In a recent podcast appearance, Farah Griffin discussed the reality of fertility struggles, particularly for women over 30. She noted that despite her privilege in affording IVF, she still faces discomfort and challenges in her fertility journey.
Lauryn’s Next Steps
As the debate continues, Lauryn Bosstick has not yet publicly responded to the upset listeners. Us Weekly reached out to Lauryn for a comment, but as of now, there has been no official statement from her.
