Men across the country are being encouraged to take steps toward better health during Men’s Health Week, which runs from June 9 to June 16, 2025. This national campaign aims to raise awareness about the physical and mental health issues men face and promote early intervention.
Why Men’s Health Matters
Men are more likely to experience serious health conditions such as heart disease, type 2 diabetes, and certain cancers. These illnesses often progress silently until they become serious. That’s why early detection and regular health checks are essential.
Free 10-Minute Health Checks Available
Men are invited to get a quick and free digital health check at a mobile kiosk, currently located at Volair Stockbridge Village Leisure Centre until June 20. The check takes just 10 minutes and measures:
−Blood pressure
−Heart rate
−Height and weight (used to calculate BMI)
The kiosk also gives an estimate of your 10-year risk of heart attack or stroke. There’s no need to book an appointment, and results are available immediately and can be sent by email. This tool helps identify potential health concerns early, allowing users to follow up with a GP, pharmacist, or other healthcare professional.
For information on improving heart health, including tips to lower blood pressure and reduce the risk of heart attack or stroke, visit the Happy Hearts website.
Support for Mental Wellbeing
One in eight men will face mental health challenges such as stress, anxiety, or depression. Men’s Health Week shines a light on the importance of mental wellness and the support available in the Knowsley area.
Several men’s support groups offer safe spaces to talk, share, and take part in physical activities:
Evolving Mindset Men’s Wellbeing Clubs
These clubs combine physical activities with mental health support, offering sports like football, badminton, and circuit training.
Kirkby Club: Tuesdays, 6–8pm at Kirkby Leisure Centre
Huyton Club: Thursdays, 6–7pm at Huyton Leisure Centre

The Kind to Your Mind website offers mental health tools, including:
−Self-help apps
−Online courses
−Personalized wellbeing plans
It’s a useful resource for anyone seeking support with emotional or mental challenges.

Have Your Say in the Men’s Health Strategy
This year’s Men’s Health Week also supports the development of a new Men’s Health Strategy, announced last November as part of the UK government’s 10-Year Health Plan.
The strategy will focus on key health issues impacting men, such as:
Prostate and testicular cancer
Mental health and suicide prevention
Men of all ages are encouraged to contribute by completing an online survey before July 17, 2025.
Local Leaders Call for Action
Cllr Christine Bannon, Knowsley’s Cabinet Member for Health, emphasized the importance of the initiative:
“We understand that discussing health, especially mental health, can be challenging for men. That’s why Men’s Health Week is so important – it opens up conversations and highlights the invaluable local resources available right here in Knowsley. Whether it’s a quick physical health check, connecting with a men’s wellbeing group, or checking out some online resources, we urge all men to take some time to focus on their health.”
This Men’s Health Week, take a moment to prioritize your wellbeing. Whether through a simple check-up, a group activity, or an online resource, every step toward better health matters.
